We loaded the vans, prayed with family, and left the copper creek parking lot about 9:45. Since it was a pretty straight shot down I-57 then to I-55. We lunched around Franklin, Illinois, dividing amongst various fast food spots. We loaded up, hit a test area, gassed the vans just north of the Arkansas state line and discovered we were definitely in the South...jars of pickled eggs in the gas station that also sold lots of fireworks and tobacco products and thick accents different from our northern twangs.
We arrived at our overnight hosts, Idlewild Presbyterian church in Memphis just in time for the evening wedding portraits. We headed to Central Barbecue in downtown Memphis, in time for the marathon. We enjoyed dinner, cheering the runners on. We walked across the street to visit the outdoor display of the National Civil Rights museum, the Lorraine Motel. It was a meaningful way to remember the struggles that happened where we were standing.
Back to the church for a little relaxation, before lights out.
Another 400 miles tomorrow!
